Rootstrikers is hiring a Web Manager. This person will be charged with cultivating Rootstrikers' social media community and online presence. Using our NationBuilder website and whatever tools make sense, s/he will drive messaging and activity to grow the community of activists eager to wrench fundamental change in our country.
Rootstrikers is a networked organization of activists, with hundreds of volunteers, two staffers, and one insanely overburdened founder, Lawrence Lessig. Our job is to educate and inspire, experimenting with techniques that create massive energy for the movement against the corrupting influence of money in politics.
Essentials:
Endless social media (blogging, Twitter, Facebook, Vimeo, etc.) experience;
Endless passion for the cause of fundamental change;
Endless energy to nurture and support an online community of volunteers and an expanding repertoire of online projects.
Duties:
You will work closely with Rootstrikers leadership to translate our strategy into compelling online tools and content. Your domain will be our NationBuilder website, our project websites, and our social media accounts. HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/jQuery are essential, and backend programming experience, PHP, Ruby on Rails and/or Liquid, publishing know-how, and graphic design skills are a bonus.
Bonus Points:
You live in the San Francisco Bay Area;
You have memorized Republic, Lost;
You can weather the occasional fire drill with patience and confidence.
This position is currently part-time, though it will grow with demonstrated success, and could possibly be paired with another organization we are friendly with for full time. We will agree on a regular level of output, and on targets to measure success. You will be wildly underpaid given the work you're doing (saving democracy), but you'll feel very good about it.
Please, only qualified, serious candidates need apply. Submit your resume to szelena@rootstrikers.org with the subject line "Web Manager." Include 2-3 paragraphs or a link to a YouTube video (joke) (maybe) telling us why you would be perfect for this job. And if you're not the perfect person, please pass this along to that person.
