One Week, Two Wins with the No Lobbying Pledge

Just one week ago we launched the No Lobbying Pledge. We asked you to help us identify candidates who promise to labor just for us—not for the lobbyists—if elected to Congress. Good news, they're listening.

Today we have two victories to celebrate: Rootstrikers signed over 300 petitions, targeting candidates in 12 states to take the No Lobbying Pledge, and our first candidate — an incumbent — just signed on! Representative Jim Cooper from Tennessee's 5th congressional district has just pledged not to become a lobbyist when he leaves Congress.

Who else will join him in that pledge? There are still eight more weeks to go until election day. Help us keep the momentum going.

There are two ways you can help:

  1. Petition your Local Candidate Now.
  2. Ask Your Local Candidate to Sign the Pledge in Person.

This election, we have the power to make candidates keep their promises. Let's use it. Demand that your candidate take The No Lobbying Pledge today.

Read more from @Lessig about progress with the No Lobbying Pledge and Rep. Cooper's signing in today's Huffington Post.

That link to the Senators letter in response to the no lobby pledge does not work unless you copy and paste it into your browser. That web address again is: pic.twitter.com/ftBgErPi

I wrote to both California Senators and my Rep in the House about 10 days ago. So far only Senator Feinstein has responded. She said even when she agrees with a pledge she would not sign it because she has a policy not to sign any pledge. She went on to tell me what she has done for campaign reform. You can see the letter from this link. pic.twitter.com/ftBgErPi

Thanks for your feedback, David. We’re taking this one step at a time, and candidates are just the first step.
