Backing a plan based on New York City's model for small dollar funded elections, the Governor promised to do whatever he could to finally end the corruption that marks the New York legislature.

Earlier last month, a New York State Supreme Court Justice rejected a challenge to New York City’s limits on campaign contributions, asserting the City’s right to establish stricter regulations than New York State. George T. McDonald, a Republican mayoral candidate, challenged the legal limit of $4,950 for individuals donating to a mayoral candidate, having already accepted several donations between $5,000 and $11,000 dollars. With this decision, supporters of fair elections can tally up another successful defense of the nation's best campaign finance system.

New York is fighting back against the undue influence of big money interests on their elections, and they need our help, Rootstrikers.
Citizens led by over 100 reform groups are campaigning for Fair Elections for New York: public financing of elections, lower contribution limits, and strong enforcement. If they succeed, they will not only change politics as usual in Albany, they will also send a strong message across the country that despite Congress's inaction, citizens are not waiting to take back their democracy.

Read moreDrowning in Corn and Drowning in Cash
Running out of air while your ears, nose, mouth, and throat fill up with corn sounds like a nightmare. It happens. And it is avoidable. NPR and the Center for Public Integrity have reported movingly on the unfortunate phenomenon of grain elevator employees asphyxiating in grain. These horrific and avoidable fatalities continue to occur at least partly because of institutional weakness at the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA)—the federal agency whose job it is to make sure that businesses keep their employees safe. As regular readers of this blog may have guessed, signs of corruption can be found at the root of this problem.
Vote for Rootstrikers in the Looking@Democracy Contest
It's no secret that Rootstrikers is a tiny organization supporting a powerful, national network of members, but with an important opportunity to scale one of our most exciting projects, I thought it couldn't hurt to send a reminder about the incredible difference you could make with just one small gesture of support today. Not money — we just need your vote.

Protecting farmers or campaign coffers?
Time and time again, monetary contributions from corporations and the individuals associated with them have made their mark on the decisions that are passed by our representatives and senators. But this time, these decisions may make an impact on the foods that we eat, and as a result, our health and safety.
