Rootstrikers across the country are taking action today to raise awareness about how companies whose products we buy every day spend millions of dollars to influence our elections. Every item they scan will be tracked here, so you can follow along, or you can download the Biz Vizz app and do some influence tracking of your own.
Running out of air while your ears, nose, mouth, and throat fill up with corn sounds like a nightmare. It happens. And it is avoidable. NPR and the Center for Public Integrity have reported movingly on the unfortunate phenomenon of grain elevator employees asphyxiating in grain. These horrific and avoidable fatalities continue to occur at least partly because of institutional weakness at the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA)—the federal agency whose job it is to make sure that businesses keep their employees safe. As regular readers of this blog may have guessed, signs of corruption can be found at the root of this problem.
It's no secret that Rootstrikers is a tiny organization supporting a powerful, national network of members, but with an important opportunity to scale one of our most exciting projects, I thought it couldn't hurt to send a reminder about the incredible difference you could make with just one small gesture of support today. Not money — we just need your vote.
